How important is it for patients unfamiliar with mono vision correction to have a contact lens trial before surgery?, or would a surgeon just go ahead and do the operation. Thanks, Jim

People over forty will continue to lose reading ability as they age.

If a person needs glasses for near and far, like bifocals people do. The choice in treating these people with LASIK is : 1) just treat the distance prescription and allow them to use reading glasses. 2) bifocal LASIK or what is known as MONOVISION, where one eye is treated for good distance vision and the other for near.
Not everyone can adjust to mono so We always recommend test in the office showing people what it would be like with mono LASIK. After this, The patient will have a very good idea whether this is a good option for them.
