Can I develop severe dry eye syndrome after LASIK?

The most common complaint following LASIK is a decrease in forming a normal amount of tears. It is necessary for the LASIK surgeon to examine any degree of dryness in evaluating a person for a prospective eye surgery. Dryness most often occurs later in life, with abuse of wearing contact lenses, various general illnesses, as well as a drying effect from the use of medications. Any pre-existing dryness should be addressed before a LASIK surgery.
