How does wavefront compare to conventional LASIK?

Conventional LASIK is performed only using your prescription for glasses. Many people may still have visual complaints even if they see 20/20 vision.
These complaints may be caused by some irregular shape of the cornea which conventional LASIK does not correct.
Wavefront LASIK treats not only the eyeglass prescription, but takes into account any irregularity of the cornea.

How Long Does It Take For Healing after PRK and LASIK?

With LASIK the reshaping of the cornea is performed inside the cornea, leaving the surface intact. Therefore there is a quick return of vision. As soon as the LASIK patient sits up from the treatment, they frequently say “Wow! I can see!” This is known as the Wow Factor.

My daughter was recently told by her eye doctor that she has very thin blood vessels that are growing in her eye which can cause blindness in the near future. Would she be a candidate to have lasik surgery or is it totally out of the question? BTW she is the only 18 years old.

I will guess that she is over wearing her contact lenses. We see this quite often with young people. She should stop wearing her lenses so much. It’s under her control. I will guess that if she stops with the contacts the vessels will recede without harm. She may then come in for a free consult and we will go over all the issues that pertain to her.

What are the different types of technology being used to do the LASIK procedure? I would like to find out the oldest laser technology to the most recent.

You can simply go to my websites or blog site for more details.

But here is a quick answer:

1) We started with the Visx laser in 1990;
2) Then we adopted an advanced to a more laser by Alcon in 1997;
3) Blade LASIK was introduced in about 1997-8;
4) The blade was replaced in 2002 ( Intralase laser ) a laser at all our centers by what became known as:
5) No-blade, or Bladeless, or All-Laser LASIK. The most advanced and safest LASIK procedure possible. Few centers offer this advanced LASIK. Why? Because it is a very expensive LASIK for a center to decide to acquire. Therefore they may simply offer PRK for all patients, or some centers will also offer blade LASIK.

What are the major differences between Z-LASIK and iLASIK? Which method would you recommend?

These names are proprietary names of the laser companies. Essentially there are three types of lasik surgery irregardless of the brand of the lasers:

1) PRK , or what some doctors now call LASEK. This was the first laser procedure that was performed by dr. Dello Russo himself in 1990. At DelloRusso laser vision we only perform PRK if a person cannot qualify for LASIK.
2) Blade LASIK, which is no longer performed at Dell Russo centers. It is an outdated laser surgery.
3) No Blade or Blameless or All-Laser LASIK, the most advanced and safest laser surgery. Introduced by dr. Dello Russo back in 2002.

I am 26 years old and have been interested in getting Lasik for years, but am unsure whether I am a candidate due to ‘degeneration of the retina’ in my right eye, astigmatism, and both nearsighted and farsightedness. I heard your advertisement on Z100 with Skeery Jones and figured it couldn’t hurt to find out! I see that you offer several types of vision correction… which one would be best (if any) for me?

Your situation is complex, so you will need to come in for a free consult with Dr. Joseph or Dr. Jeffrey Dello Russo. A complete eye exam can be performed.

I need to wear glasses to drive and for sport. I have a -.75 on both eyes. Is it worth it to get LASIK surgery?

Indeed it is a mild prescription. If a person needs or just wants to see perfect for distance and is otherwise qualified, then this person can elect to have LASIK with a very qualified surgeon.
However, if the person is over forty, their the reading will be lost and glasses for reading would be required. It would be a trade off. A contact lens trial at the time of consultation will be performed that will demonstrate the pros and cons better than your current glasses.
