Why Do Some LASIK Patients Need a Retreatment?

Why Do Some LASIK Patients Need a Retreatment?

The purpose of LASIK is to use a special laser to reshape the cornea that can eliminate the need for a person’s corrective eye prescription. If a person is nearsighted the cornea is too round for their eye. So we need to microscopically “flatten” their cornea, so the cornea has the optimal power for the eye.

Do you need to buy expensive sunglasses?

The good news is that wearers don’t need to shell out big bucks or sacrifice fashion to protect their peepers. As long as the sunglasses are labeled as having UVA and UVB protection, wearers will get the same protection whether the sun specs are a $5 pair from a drugstore or a $500 pair sold at a boutique, eye doctors said. Look for sunglasses labeled as having 100 percent protection from UVA and UVB light (also called UV 400 block). Most lenses sold by retailers will have full protection, they added. Read more

Dello Russo Laser Vision Lasik Can Eliminate the Need for Reading Glasses

Dello Russo Laser Vision Lasik Can Eliminate the Need for Reading Glasses New York, NY, April 16, 2015 — Dello Russo LaserVision is excited to announce that they started research on a new LASIK procedure that can eliminate the need for reading glasses in the near future.

This research project is a distinctly unique approach to the loss of reading ability, which starts at about 40 and continues until about 55 years of age. Dr. Dello Russo cannot predict the success of this research, but in the meantime they offer “bifocal LASIK.”

Their bifocal LASIK procedure, which can often completely eliminate the need for glasses after laser vision correction, has become one of the most popular surgeries among middle-aged patients in the past fifteen years since it was adopted by this laser center.

Dr. Joseph Dello Russo, a well-known LASIK surgeon, who along with the inventor of the laser played a prominent role in the clinical trials as a former FDA researcher by helping to develop and improve the laser surgery procedure now known as LASIK surgery, says that bifocal LASIK works best with people who need glasses for far as well as near – bifocal glasses.

Dr. Joseph Dello Russo: “Some folks have perfect distance vision, but need only reading glasses. A portion of these people can be successful with bifocal LASIK, but not everyone.” That is why Dr. Joseph Dello Russo stresses the fact that he must personally evaluate each candidate for bifocal LASIK.

Will my vision continue to worsen as I get older since I am farsighted?

Generally speaking farsightedness refers to eyes that are weak, too weak to focus on their own. The opposite of nearsightedness. Weak muscles do tend to get weaker in time. There are two types of of the condition, one is strictly related to age, starting in early forties and extending out to about mid fifties. It is what causes all of us to lose our natural reading ability, necessitating reading glasses.

The type of farsightedness that starts early in life continues to get worse as one ages. This type must be carefully treated and handled wisely by the experienced surgeon.

What if I blink during LASIK?

In general, you won’t. If treated by a skilled surgeon he will allow your surgery to take place in a very relaxing atmosphere. You may be offered a medication by mouth to make you more comfortable.

During an eye laser surgery you will not feel any pain since your eyes will be made numb by the appropriate drops.

You will want to relax and cooperate, not blinking since you want a successful result. However, some lasers will automatically instantly shut off if your eye moves. Automatic shutoff.
