Question
I am interested in having the LASIK procedure. However, I have some concerns. I have seen media articles which claim the procedure is high risk for ghosting, arcs, starburst and halos, corneal abscesses, undercorrection, overcorrection, double vision, triple vision or loss of night vision or loss of vision altogether. I know that there are risks with all surgeries, but what are the realities with respect to LASIK. Can you speak to some of my concerns. How do I arrange a consultation?Answer
We are blessed in ophthalmology by having two of the safest procedures ever devised-cataract surgery and LASIK surgery. There is a minimal risk of all the risk factors that you listed above. The possibility for overcorrection and undercorrection is 5%, but this can be readily corrected with an enhancement which is included in the cost. The best policy for avoid- can I go blind?
